Where this helps
Dictionaries and flashcard apps show spelling and translation, but rarely let you hear a sentence at natural speed in a specific accent. That’s the gap this fills: type it, hear it, replay it, repeat it out loud.
It works well for vocabulary, short example sentences and rehearsing a phrase before you use it. It can’t respond to you or correct you, so pair it with a tutor, a study partner or language exchange if speaking fluency is the goal.
Ways to use it
Single words
Type one word you’re unsure about, generate it, and replay the take while repeating it.
Example sentences
Hearing a word inside a real sentence teaches rhythm and stress that an isolated word doesn’t. Add [[p1200]] between sentences to leave time to repeat after the voice.
Slow listening
Set speed to 0.7–0.8× in Settings. The voice slows down without the pitch dropping.
Dialogues
Write a short exchange — “Where is the station? / Turn left at the corner.” — and hear it as two voices in the multi-speaker studio.
Accent comparison
Many languages have several regional accents. Search the voice picker for a region (“Mexico”, “Argentina”) or a locale code (es-MX, es-AR) and compare the same phrase.
Improve listening skills with text to speech
Listening improves when you hear the same material several times, each time with a different task. A short routine with one paragraph:
- Listen without the text. Play the take once or twice and write down what you understood.
- Read along. Play it again while reading the script, and mark the words you missed.
- Shadow. Play it sentence by sentence —
[[p1500]]after each sentence gives you time — and repeat straight after the voice. - Speed up. Start at 0.8× and move to normal speed once you catch most of it, then try a voice with a different accent.
